Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchetta – 250 p.
This is a lengthy novel about identity, culture and allowing yourself to be different. It follows Josie Alibrandi through her senior year at a Catholic School in Australia. Josie thinks she and the rest of the neighborhood knows everything about her past–how she was conceived when her mother was only 16, how her father never knew about it because her family moved that year, and how her grandma has accused her mother of abusing the family ever since. But Josie is about to get a visit from someone who will change her views of family, boys and gossip–for the better.
