Komal's Faves Part 1

Hey people, Komal here again! I wanted to share with you some interesting books I read this summer:

Komal's Faves

Bless Me Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya
In this book, the author uses magical realism. I read it in my Language Arts class. It’s about a boy named Antonio who is six years old and lives in New Mexico, his parents have different futures planned out for him. His mom wants him to become a priest whereas his dad wants him to become a vaquero (spanish for cowboy). But then one day a curandera (healer) endowed with spiritual powers of her ancestors comes to his house. Her name is Ultima and she teaches Antonio about healing powers. Together they fight against three evil witches who have cursed Antonio’s uncle; it’s a battle of good vs. evil. In the end Antonio must choose which path his wants to pursue.

Summer Boys by Hailey Abbott
This book takes place at the beautiful Pebble Beach where Ella, Beth, and Jamie are at their family’s beach house. There are three girls, too many boys, and some serious hook ups/break ups and they’re gearing up for the wildest time of their lives. Each girl owns a different personality. There is Ella who is really wild, Beth the sporty one and Jamie the smart and creative one.  I liked this book because it is so cute to read about their relationships that exclusively happen during the summer but once school starts again everything changes. This book also has series: Next Summer, After School and Last Summer. I read them all! And I loved them!
