The Seattle Art Museum and the library are doing something so totally awesome- pairing arts and literacy (two of the best things ever!) for a day of free admission at the renowned museum. On Sunday, February 28, bring your library card to the downtown museum all day and get in totally free.
There’s no reason not to take a break from your Sunday-homework-cram and drop by the museum (at 1300 1st Avenue): you get culture for free, discounts at the restaurant and gift shop, and can see famous traveling shows before they leave the city. Alexander Calder: A Balancing Act is the current exhibition, showing off over forty never-before-seen pieces from the legendary master sculptor. This includes small models, jewelry, and even huge mobiles. Come for an easy way to learn about art and expand your repertoire beyond the more well-known artists.
If you aren’t so sure yet about checking the show out, look at some of these books about Calder’s work to inspire you. Calder: Sculptor of Air and Calder Jewelry offer an interesting look at his long career, as well as Alexander Calder and Calder sculpture : National Gallery of Art, Washington
If you want more details, go here. I for one will definitely take advantage of this opportunity and be there, library card in hand.
