Margaret with Brazilian Youth Ambassador Ramon, who she hosted with the World Affairs Council in January 2011. He still calls her mom his “American mom.”
Hey teens! Want to make lifelong friends from other countries and be a citizen ambassador this summer–all from the comfort of your own home?
This summer, the World Affairs Council is excited to welcome high school students from Mexico, Iraq and China, and university students from the Middle East and North Africa to Seattle for 1-2 week programs based around themes of leadership development, conflict resolution and youth empowerment. The students are exemplary community leaders selected by the U.S. Department of State out of thousands of applicants and are extremely excited to come to the USA!
We are currently seeking local host families for these wonderful international students. THIS IS WHERE YOU COME IN 🙂 Hosting is very easy; these are short-term programs that last 1-2 weeks only. You’ll get much more out of it than you put in.
- All youth leaders speak English and will be provided bus passes for daily program transportation and a cellphone
- Youth leaders must be provided their own bed, but can share a bedroom with another student of the same age and gender
- Youth leaders will participate in a World Affairs Council program during the day and will have the evenings and weekends free
- Families of all types are welcome to apply and can live anywhere in the Seattle area
Sign up now to be a host family for one or two students! Fill out the online application or contact Rachel for more information.
