Burn for Burn: Hooked and couldn’t put it down

burnforburnTitle: Burn for Burn (First book in the trilogy)

Author: Jenny Han and Siobhan Vivian

Summary: Kat, Lillia and Mary are three high school girls living on Jar Island. They are united unexpectedly by their pasts, each has been hurt by someone. They vow to help each other get revenge, and make the wrongs into rights. The surprise ending was very unexpected and confusing. You may want to check out the first and second books at the same time to spare yourself the pain of having to wait until the next one comes in.

Gut reaction: I was hooked and couldn’t put it down.

Why: The voices of the characters very real and individual. But, there were so many stereotypical high school characters and parts of the story seemed very shallow. On the other hand there were some very deep and serious issues that are addressed.

Who would like this book: If you like realistic fiction, chapters that alternate perspectives and unexpected twist endings (with a follow up in the next book).
