Acoustic Fantasy concert at Central today!

Acoustic FantasySplendid musical group Acoustic Fantasy takes the central stage at the Central Library for the first time. Not to be missed!

Level 1 Microsoft Auditorium

A real treat for music lovers of all kinds, flamenco and jazz in particular.

The musical group Acoustic Fantasy performs original instrumental music consisting of styles like Flamenco, jazz and some elements of classical and folk music. Acoustic Fantasy is fronted by guitar virtuoso Sergey Ignatov and is backed by musicians of equal caliber and exceptional musicianship.

A must see. Great family entertainment!

Youth Drop-in @ Central tomorrow!

Youth Drop-inThursday, Mar. 5, 4 – 6 p.m.

Youth (ages 12-25) are invited to join us for a free weekly drop-in in the Central Library Teen Center.

Hosted in partnership with New Horizons and YouthCare, drop-ins will offer free snacks, activities and resources.

Library events and programs are free and all youth (ages 12-25) are welcome. No registration.

NBA Legend KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR READS @ Central Library; FEB. 19th!

Stealing the GameAuthor and former basketball player Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will read from his second book in the Streetball Crew series, Stealing the Game, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at The Seattle Public Library, Central Library, 1000 Fourth Ave., Level 1, Microsoft Auditorium.

Library events and programs are free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations are not required. Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

Stealing the Game is a fast-paced story for tweens (ages 8-12) about teamwork, friendship and dark secrets.  The book tackles issues like building self-esteem, celebrating one’s individuality and what it means to feel special.  “Stealing the Game” also features teenagers who act like teenagers by debating zombies and falling in love while watching classic French movies.

Abdul-Jabbar is a retired basketball player named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.  After his retirement, he wrote nine New York Times bestsellers on topics as varied as World War II, the Harlem Renaissance, and the impact of African-American inventors.  The first book in his Streetball Crew series is Sasquatch in the Paint.

Supporting this event:  The Seattle Public Library Foundation, media sponsor Seattle Times and presented in partnership with Elliott Bay Book Co.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.

SeahawksLook no further!  We’re showing it at the Central Library!

Free tickets for seats will be available beginning at 4 p.m. at the auditorium entrance near the escalators. Auditorium doors will open for seating for ticket holders on a first come, first served basis beginning at 4:45 p.m. The auditorium can accommodate about 275 people.

The Library will get fans in the spirit by offering free Seahawks promotional items (limited numbers). Library staff members will be wearing their Seahawks jerseys…so be sure to wear all your gear, too!  And bring the noise, 12th Man!

Although the Central Library closes at 6 p.m. on Saturday, people in the auditorium will be allowed to stay until the game ends.
